If you select "TeX" as the file creator, Debate Coach will insert LaTeX formatting commands for you. All you have to do is run the file through TeX. It will also search for the special symbols $, &, %, #, and _, and replace them with the appropriate LaTeX commands. If you are writing a plain text file, you can have Debate Coach remove the LaTeX type style commands \rm, \em, \bf, and \it from the text.
